My Sis-in-law once asked me, “Why every ‘good with cooking’ people hate to peel off garlic? Don’t you consider it as a part of cooking?” I really laughed hard on that word. Her words might be different, but yeah, I really don’t like to peel off the garlic much. If you asked me how to peel garlic cloves by then, I would have said, I asked my SIL to do so. Lol. But that’s not how you do it. Not everyone has a kind hearted SIL. For them, here are some tips on how you can peel off the garlic cloves at ease. Now I too practice one of these.
Use the Knife Blade:
Take a chopping board. Place a garlic clove on it. Lay the flat side of a chef’s knife over it. Keep the blade side away from you. Now “Thud”, hit it with the base of your palm. This will crush the clove slightly. The peel will loosen up. Now peel it off at ease.
Microwave it:
Microwave the garlic for 10 seconds. The heat will loosen up the garlic skin. Now take it off.
Shake it:
It’s my favourite and mostly opted option. Taka a few garlic cloves in a small jar. Close the lid. And now shake it. Shake. Shake. Shake. The friction will peel off all the garlic. Remove the skin.
Add to boiling water:
Drop the garlic cloves into piping hot boiling water. Wait for 30 seconds. Then transfer these to ice water. The thermal shock will loosen the garlic peel. Simple.
Conclusion:
Pick any method of your choice if you wonder how to peel garlic cloves. But you should wash your hands thoroughly. Else, you will be spreading its strong odor to each and everything you touch. Who would want that?
