How to Wash Kitchen Towels?

You know, what is the most irritating thing in the kitchen? It’s the greasy dirty kitchen towel. It’s quite annoying, but can’t stop it from happening. Cooking is an art, and like every art, it comes with a backdrop mess. But with a little effort, you at least can manage to keep these tiny problems in control. So, if you are wondering how to wash kitchen towels not spending much time and labor, you have reached the destination.

Let’s see how you too can wash your towels.

Sort the towels:

Kitchen towels are not for washing with your regular garments. These are different and need different treatments. Even if your kitchen towels are not that dirty or greasy, wash them separately.

Pre-treat stains:

If these have any strong stains, you should treat them first. Just apply a few drops of stain remover. Gently rub and let it sit for some minutes.

Soak in the vinegar water:

If your kitchen towels are too smelly and you are trying to figure out how to wash kitchen towels so that they don’t stink, this step is absolutely necessary. Add half a cup of vinegar to a potful of water. Submerge your towels in this concoction. Leave it for a couple of minutes. This way you may remove odors. This step is optional. You may avoid it if your towels don’t make you sneer at it.

The boiling method:

Take a vessel that is moderately larger to accommodate all your towels in one shot. Keep the vessel separately for washing purposes only.

Now fill the vessel half with water.

Add 1 Teaspoon baking soda and 1 Teaspoon of liquid detergent. If you don’t have liquid detergent, go for regular washing powder. I have taken this much of the ingredients to wash 4 towels. Measurements should differ with the number of towels.

Mix it well.

Now bring it to a boil.

Put all the towels together. Take a wooden ladle to press these down into the boiling water. Flip the towels once one side is done. After a couple of minutes of flipping, you will see the color of the water has changed. That is the time you should turn off the flame and leave these soaked in the water.

After half an hour or so, transfer these towels to the laundry bucket where you wash your stuff.

Now wash it thoroughly under running water.

Dry:

Drying in direct sunlight is the best way of drying your kitchen towels. It helps kill bacteria, removes odors (if there are any), and gives it a fresh feeling. You may air-dry them too if there is no sunlight.

Precautions:

Never use fabric softener. These will reduce the absorbency of your towel.

Avoid using vinegar if you have hard water. It’s more likely to leave a residue.

Keep on changing your kitchen towels at a regular interval to maintain kitchen hygiene.

Conclusion:

Regular washing and proper care can enhance the longevity of your kitchen towels. So if you wonder how to wash kitchen towels, follow the process step by step. You will achieve your desired result for sure.
