Today it has been pouring cats and dogs since morning. I casually opened my fridge to see what was there. It is something I do quite often. Just checking out the labels of my stored ingredients. I recently opened a can of whipping cream, so I had to use it before it got sour. No wastage. There was a block of compound white chocolate. What I needed more? Enough for making a treat, the white chocolate mousse.
Mousse is a French word, meaning ‘foam’. As the name suggests, it’s quite understandable that the dish was surely prepared in a French kitchen for the first time. The earliest reference that was documented in culinary history dates back to 1755. Wow. Quite a past, huh!! This dish has traveled for centuries. And of course, its taste has definitely changed with the ingredients being used.
Let’s see how you too can prepare white chocolate mousse in your cozy kitchen corner.
Ingredients:
Whipping cream – ½ Cup
White chocolate – ½ Cup (cut it into small chunks/grated)
Procedure:
Prepare the whipped cream:
Take a bigger bowl where you want to whip your cream. Take ¼ cup of whipping cream in it.
Now use an electric mixer to whip it.
For the first 2 minutes put it on high speed.
Then lower the speed to medium and whip until the stiff peaks appear.
Give it a quick mix and keep it aside, preferably in the refrigerator.
Prepare the chocolate:
Now take a double boiler. People who don’t know what is a double boiler, let me explain. You can’t melt your chocolate in direct flame, you need a medium in between, that’s called a double boiler. You need to heat water in a pot and place the chocolate bowl on top of the pot. The heat coming from the water will melt the chocolate.
Take the bowl and put white chocolate and ¼ cup of whipping cream. Place the bowl on the boiler. Leave it for 2 minutes untouched.
Then start mixing it well using a whisk. It should acquire a lump-free and flowing consistency. Your chocolate cream is ready.
Remove it from the heat and cool it down.
Assemble:
Now add the chocolate cream to the whipped cream. Mix it until these two components blend well.
Serving:
Fill the serving bowl with the help of a piping bag.
Garnish with your kind of toppings.
Refrigerate for half an hour.
Serve.
