Ema Datshi

Ema Datshi

Ema Datshi, this dish became a super sensation when Deepika Padukone spoke about it. My sister introduced the video to me, and the recipe instantly took my heart. It’s a Bhutanese recipe, Bhutan’s national dish to be exact, and as a part of Bhutanese cuisine, it has an extensive hand over the chilies. The natural climate of the country supports various chili cultivation leading it to a spicy and flavorful cuisine.

Ema Datshi consists of two main ingredients; Ema and Datshi, Chili and Cheese. The salty and creamy taste of Datshi and the spicy taste of Ema make a perfect combination. It tastes best in the winter. But I chose a rainy day to prepare the food in my kitchen.

Let’s see how you too may prepare this in your kitchen.

Ingredients:

Capsicum – 1 Nos. (julienned)

Green Chilies – 3 Nos. (slit)

Garlic cloves – 6 Nos. (finely chopped or minced)

Onion – 1 No. (medium-sized, sliced)

Tomato – 1 No. (medium-sized, sliced)

Cheese – 60 g (grated)

Salt – To taste

Olive oil/vegetable oil – 1 Tablespoon

Peppercorn – 5 to 8 Nos. (optional)

Water – ½ Cup

Procedure:

Take a wok. Do not turn on the flame at this point of time.

Now add capsicum, chilies, tomato slices, onion slices, minced garlic, peppercorn, oil, salt, and water.

Now put the wok on the medium flame.

Lid it.

Let it get cooked for 10 minutes.

Check whether the veggies are cooked or not.

If done then spread the grated cheese over it.

Lid it and cook for just 2 minutes.

Give it a quick stir.

Serve hot with steamed rice.

This recipe serves 2 people.
