‘Machhe bhaate bangali’, yes that’s how we Bengalis are described, we survive on fish and rice. That’s why we probably know a million simple fish recipes. And, a recipe that has hilsa fish in it, wins our hearts. By the way, we call it ilish. Ilish Paani khola is a Bangladeshi recipe, precisely from Mymensingh district, which I found on the internet. It’s so simple. Really. Just 5 regular ingredients from the kitchen and an amazing recipe is just ready. Initially, I thought it was too good to be true. But it came out exactly as it claimed in the reel. It’s a simple hilsha fish stew that needs only steamed rice to accompany it.
Let’s see how you too can prepare this in your kitchen.
Ingredients:
Hilsa fish – 3 – 4 pieces (large-sized)
Mustard oil – 3 Tablespoons
Onion paste – 1 Medium size
Chilli paste – 2 Tablespoons
Salt – To taste
Procedure:
Take a wok.
Add mustard oil to it.
Then add the onion paste, chili paste (you may add more if you need it spicier) and salt to the oil.
Mix very well.
Add the fish pieces.
Mix well.
Add two cups of water.
And then turn on the flame.
Put it on high flame and place a lid on it.
Let the gravy become thicker and the fish be cooked.
You may flip the fish pieces during the process.
Let it come down to a quite thick consistency and release the oil.
You may add two to three slitted green chilies in this stage.
Just cook it for 2 minutes on low flame.
Turn off the burner.
Serve steaming hot with rice.
Conclusion:
Just go for this wonderful recipe once and do let me know in the comment section how it came out.
Enjoy!
