We all are rice eaters in our family. We just love this tinny tiny grain, its aroma, its steamy flavor and the overall experience of combining it with our choice of gravy. Oh, it’s heavenly. Obviously we store it in quite large quantity. In this blog I will share how to store rice for a prolonged usage.
Choose the right container:
Always use a clean container. Whenever your stock gets over wipe it with dry clean cloth.
Make sure the lid of your container closes tightly, so that no moisture or pest can enter.
Food- grade plastic container, glass made jars or metal containers can go well for storing rice.
Keep your rice dry:
Moisture is its prime enemy. Rice gets easily spoiled or may catch mold. Make sure your container is completely dry before filling it up.
Store in cool and dry place:
Always store your rice in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. The ideal place for storing rice is pantry, cupboard or a comparatively cool basement.
Avoid exposure to air:
Oxidization can lead rice to reduce its shelf life. Keep the lid tightly sealed to stop air exposure.
Protect from pests:
Pests attack is a common problem while storing rice. I use a fistful of dried red chili to prevent the pest attack. You may place some bay leaves or a fistful of cloves or may be some dry red chili in the container. These will repel bugs without affecting the taste of rice.
Rotate stock:
The old rice tastes better. Make sure you use the older stock first and then replenish the container with fresh stock.
Extra Tip:
If you are wondering how to store rice in bulk, always use a smaller container for regular use, and store the rest of the stock in a bigger container.
Conclusion:
By following these steps, you can ensure that your rice stays fresh and maintains its quality as long as possible.
