How to store Tofu / Bean Curd?

Homemade Tofu is an amazingly done basic ingredient of various dish. So, if you have made this you got to know how to store tofu properly so that you may savor its taste for at least 10 days. Here what you have to do:

Cooling and draining process:

Let your tofu drain out completely. (Follow Bean Curd / Tofu Recipe Blog for the process) A completely cool and drained out tofu / bean curd is much stable for storing.

Storage in water:

Take the cool and drained tofu and cut this into pieces. Place it into a container and submerge it with fresh water. The pieces should be beneath the water level.

Refrigeration:

Lid the container and keep it in the fridge. This will keep its freshness and tenderness intact. As homemade tofu has no preservatives, it’s absolutely necessary to use it within a few days. Keep an eye on it. You should change its water within two days to keep it at good condition.

Freezing:

Freezing is absolutely optional. But if you really opt for this option (in case you made plenty of it and can’t consume in 7 days or so) freezing is what you should try. Cut the tofu into pieces and keep them in a freezer-safe container or a bag. Well, in this way you may save your tofu for a longer period of time but don’t expect the freshness stay intact. Freezing will definitely change its texture resulting a difference in taste.

Extra storage tips:

Don’t store your homemade Tofu in its own draining juice as it will change its texture and taste. Fresh water will keep it fresh instead.

Don’t store it near the strong smelling foods. It may absorb unwanted flavours.
