Yesterday was a sunny lazy day. I have been watching a not-so-recent Bengali movie where I found this maan kochu bata recipe. It used to be my hot favorite back in childhood. Maa used to make it. I could want nothing more if I had this teamed with steamed rice. Wow! How tasty! The people of Delhi are unfamiliar with maan kochu aka taro root. But the colony where I stay, Bengali colony, by the name you get an idea that the Bengalis live here. And you may get anything that is likable by the Bengalis. Not to stretch more, I got a piece of taro root this morning from our local veggie vendor. What else? What could stop me from preparing this magnificent dish for my lunch? This maan kochu bata recipe is a pure pleasure.
Let’s see how you too can prepare this in your kitchen.
Ingredients:
Taro root (maan kochu) – 250 g
Coconut pieces – ½ Cup
Mustard paste – 2 tablespoon
Green chili – 4-5 Nos.
Mustard oil – 3 Tablespoon
Salt – to taste
Procedure:
Peel off the taro root and cut it into pieces.
Soak it in the salt water for 10 minutes.
Now grate it with the help of a grater.
Now take a blender.
Add grated taro root, coconut pieces, mustard paste, salt, and green chilies.
Add some water if needed but not much.
Now blend well.
Transfer it to a bowl.
Add mustard oil.
Break some more green chilies if you like it spicier.
Team it up with steamed rice.
Serve.
You must squeeze a piece of lemon while consuming it.
This recipe offers 6 servings.
Extra Tip:
Sometimes the taro roots are quite itchy because of the raphides present in them. If you feel itchy while handling them, soak the grated taro roots in the mixture of hot water and lemon juice for a couple of minutes. Then squeeze the water out from them and use the strained pulp of the taro roots.
