Tiramisu

Tiramisu

If you ask me what is my kind of sweet, or what I can cherish at any time anywhere, I would simply say, a Tiramisu. It’s not that old recipe. If we walk backward for just about 65 years, in 1960 Roberto Loli Linguanotto, an Italian pastry chef first made this path-breaking custard-like dessert. Well, that was the start. Slowly it spread over the globe. And within a very short time, it arranged its niche in fine dining.

Let’s see how you too can prepare classic tiramisu in your cozy kitchen corner.

Ingredients:

For the Cream Mixture:

Egg yolks – 6 Nos.

Granulated sugar – ¾ Cup

Heavy cream – 1 Cup

Mascarpone cheese – 225 g (room temperature)

Vanilla extract – 1 Teaspoon

For the Coffee Mixture:

Strong brewed coffee – 1 Cup (cooled to room temperature)

Coffee liqueur – 2 Tablespoon (optional)

For assembling:

Ladyfingers – 30 Nos.

Unsweetened cocoa powder – For dusting

Procedure:

Prepare the cream mixture:

Take a large bowl. Put the egg yolks and granulated sugar in it.

Whisk it until the mix becomes pale and thick.

Take a separate bowl. Put the heavy cream in it.

Whip until it forms stiff peaks.

Add mascarpone cheese into the egg yolk mixture and fold it until it becomes smooth.

Now add the whipped cream to this egg yolk and cheese mix. Carefully fold them until they combine well and become smooth.

Add vanilla extract and mix gently.

Prepare the coffee mixture:

Take a shallow dish or pot.

Take the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur (if using). Combine these well.

Assemble the Tiramisu:

Briefly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture. Do not soak them. A quick dip is enough.

Take a 9X13-inch trifle dish. Arrange a layer of coffee-mix-dipped ladyfingers in the bottom.

Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the ladyfingers.

Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone cream mixture.

Chill and Serve:

Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. I prefer overnight refrigeration. It allows the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.

Dust the top layer with unsweetened cocoa powder.

Cut into square pieces and serve chilled.

Conclusion:

A Tiramisu recipe is quite simple, but it comes with excellent taste. So next time if you get confused about what to make for a special dessert, just go for it.

Enjoy!
